Connections

Connect YouTube

YouTube uses incremental OAuth scopes and a daily quota. What we ask for, when we ask for it, and what to do when the quota runs out.

Last updated

YouTube is connected through Google OAuth. We ask for scopes incrementally, which means the first connection requests only what is needed to read your channel, and upload permission is requested the first time you actually publish something.

Connecting

  1. Settings → Connections → YouTube → Connect.
  2. Choose the Google account that owns the channel. If you have a Brand Account, pick the brand, not your personal account — this is the most common mistake and it produces a connection to an empty channel.
  3. Google will warn you that the app is not verified if you are on a self-hosted build. On stacked.app the app is verified and you will not see this.

Scopes, and when we ask

  • youtube.readonly — asked at connection. Reads your channel, your recent uploads and your public stats so Hook and Title Lab can learn from your own history.
  • youtube.upload — asked the first time you approve a video draft. Uploads Shorts and long-form video.
  • youtube.force-ssl — asked the first time you enable Comment Reply Agent. Reads and posts comment replies.
  • yt-analytics.readonly — optional. Fills in impressions and click-through rate, which makes title A/B testing meaningful.

You can decline any of these and the rest keep working. The tool that needed the declined scope will show a connect card instead of drafts.

Quota

YouTube gives every application a daily quota. An upload costs 1,600 units against a default allowance of 10,000, so a default project can upload about six videos a day across all its users.

If the quota is exhausted, drafts move to the next day automatically with a notice in Needs attention. Nothing is lost and nothing fails permanently. If you consistently need more than six uploads a day, tell support and we will move your workspace to a higher-quota project.

What you can post

TypeLimits
Short60 seconds or less, 9:16
VideoAny length or ratio
Community postOne image, text

Titles are capped at 100 characters and descriptions at 5,000. Chapters are generated from the transcript. madeForKids is always set to false unless you change it per draft, because setting it true disables comments and personalised ads permanently on that video.

Common problems

Connected but no videos appear — you authorised a personal Google account rather than the Brand Account that owns the channel. Disconnect and reconnect, choosing the brand.

"The request cannot be completed because you have exceeded your quota" — the daily quota. Drafts roll to tomorrow on their own; no action needed.

Uploads appear as private — your channel is not verified with Google, which caps uploads at private. Verify the channel by phone in YouTube Studio and re-run the upload.
